Sherwood Forest is a large residential neighborhood in Notts County, Illinois. The area is infamous for its low-rent public housing, urban decay and crime rate. The demographic is a broad mixture of White, African-American and Hispanic residents ranging from middle-income families to just above the poverty line. A landmark of the neighborhood is a 9,000 square foot area with a sinking foundation (on which shops and homes are built) nicknamed "The Ditches". Aside from its physical characteristics, The Ditches is also known for being a highly concentrated area of gang activity and violent crimes. Despondent residents of Sherwood Forest are frequent vicitms of the corrupt Sheriff's department which extorts them through protetcion rackets and abuses of asset forfeiture laws.
